The Royal Navy Championships

The Royal Navy Championships hosted at the David Broome Event Centre. This was a show jumping competition held over 3 days alongside civilian classes. The first 2 days had ranking points that counted towards the military titles. The Army contributed over 10 riders from AMS Equestrian, RA Equestrian and RLC Equestrian teams and we came away with a clutch of prizes. Out of the 4 military sections, we dominated half of them coming away with both the champion and reserve champion titles.

Intro (70 cm) Champion and Reserve:

SSgt Elaine Bennett (QARANC) and WO2 Frankie Cheetham (QARANC)

Junior (80 cm) Champion and Reserve:

Maj Hannah Hewins (RLC) and SSgt Elaine Bennett (QARANC)

And what a send off as well – this was WO2 Cheetham’s last military competition as she retires from the Army Reserves this summer. She has been an integral team player for the AMS Equestrian Team. She was awarded the AEA’s Riders award in 2022 and will be missed on the military circuit. Happy retirement WO2 Cheetham!

Leg 3 of the Loriners Inter-services Trophy held at the Royal Navy Championships

The Royal Navy Championships also hosted the third leg of the Loriners Inter-services Trophy. With the Army topping the league table, all was in play and the pressure was on for the team to maintain the lead. With 2 rounds of show jumping, 1.00 m and then a second round held at 1.05, the Army team kept their cool to take the win.

The team consisted of:

Maj Nicola Barge (RAMC) and Hummer III

SSgt Sammy Langdon (REME) and Kilcorban My Fair Lady

LCpl Laura Charley (R Signals) and Ferrara VI

ATpr Will Field (AAC) and Graddus T

Special mention to SSgt Langdon for stepping in at last minute as team captain, Captain Zoe Andrew (R Signals) had an unfortunate breakdown on the way to the competition.
